JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER

Happy New Year!! Mother Nature has not been very kind to snowmobilers thus far. Recent snow in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan will hopefully allow the trails to open soon. Yellow Thunder trails are all ready, once the snow decides to arrive.

Winter Party and Fundraiser - The Yellow Thunder Winter Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Our Winter Grooming/Trail Maintenance raffle will be held at The Dorf Haus in Roxbury, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Raffle tickets are $50 each with the top cash prize being $3,000. $6,000 in cash prizes will be given away to a total of 29 lucky winners whose names are drawn for some CASH. Each raffle ticket includes one entry into the raffle, dinner for one, and free beer and soda all evening. All ticket holders can also purchase one additional meal ticket for a spouse or guest for $10, which also includes free beer and soda. Music and dancing will be provided by Juke Box Bandstand. There will be a lot of other fun activities going on in conjunction with the party, and we hope that many of you can make it! Please contact your YT sales person from last year to obtain your ticket, or contact Kim Glaser (592-1343) to check availability. Tickets are always a sell-out, so please purchase early!

Membership News - Beginning this month, those members who have not renewed for the 2011-12 season have been removed from the newsletter mailing list. So, if you hear someone saying they didn’t get their newsletter, have them visit any of our commercial sponsors to pick up an application blank; hand them a membership application, or tell them to go online and print one from our web site and send it in!

Yellow Thunder Scholarships - Just a reminder that YT is once again offering two scholarships ($250 each) for deserving club members pursuing secondary education. Applicants must meet several criteria; complete the application and profile forms; and submit a short essay on "What Snowmobiling Means to Me." Applications must be received by February 15, 2012, to be considered. The scholarships will be awarded at the Landowner's Banquet in the spring. Applications can be obtained from Jenny Rake with the YT Scholarship Committee, or from the Lodi High School. Click here to view/print a .pdf of the Scholarship Application.

Easter Seals Ride - The Easter Seal Society of Wisconsin and the Dane County Council of Snowmobile Clubs are again sponsoring the annual Easter Seals benefit event called Blizzard Blast. The event will be held at the Red Mouse in Pine Bluff on Saturday, February 4. Lots of activities will be going on that day, including casino games, on-going door prizes throughout the night, raffles, food and beverages, and pledge ride. The $20 raffle ticket includes food, free beer and soda, silent auction, indoor/outdoor games, and live music by Baby Rocket from 7-11 p.m. Top raffle prizes include $1,000 in cash and a 46-inch HDTV. If trails are closed, you can ride your pledged mileage in other locations. Pledge sheets and raffle tickets will be available at the January YT meeting/souparee at Peg & Docs, or online at www.eastersealswisconsin.com. www.eastersealswisconsin.com

Soup Nights - Once again this season, Yellow Thunder commercial sponsors are offering free soup to snowmobilers when the trails are open. Soup is available on Tuesdays at KD’s Bar & Grill in Lodi and Hanson’s in Dane; Wednesdays at Northern Edge; and Thursdays at Schoepp’s Resort (when they re-open). Stop in for hot soup when you’re out on the trails.

Souparee - The January meeting will be the Souparee held at Peg & Doc’s in Dane on January 8. Please bring a can of soup which will be donated to a local food pantry, as well as a dish to pass and your own table service. Soup will be provided! There will be a business meeting at 12:00 p.m., and we will eat after the meeting.

Anchor’s Away Parking/Specials - Anchor’s Away has snowmobile parking behind their restaurant off Okee Bay (near their boat slips). This will make for easy access to the restaurant and bar. Anchor’s Away is also offering buy-1-get-1-free drink for snowmobilers when the trails are open!

Stronach Bonfire - Derald and Clare report that they are planning on having a bonfire in January, depending on whether the trails are open. Please keep watch for an e-mail notice and details confirming the bonfire event.

Miscellaneous - Thank you to Jenny Rake, Derald Stronach, Samantha Annen, Malorie Storey, and Brad Morter for certifying 29 new snowmobile safety students. The names of Al Karls and Bonnie Lloyd were drawn for the attendance fund. Since they were not present, the fund will carry over to the next meeting.
