JULY - AUGUST 2010 NEWSLETTER

Hopefully everyone has made it through most of the graduation parties and is having an enjoyable summer! We sure have had a lot or rain this summer, but the crops are looking great. Summer is a very busy time for Yellow Thunder, with two of our largest fundraisers being held in conjunction with the Art Fair in the Park and the Lodi Agricultural Fair.

Lodi Art Fair Food Booth - The Art Fair will be held in Habermann Park on Saturday, July 3. Yellow Thunder will again be hosting the Food Booth, and pies or baked goods are needed for sale at the Art Fair. So if you can find the time and energy to bake a pie it would be much appreciated. Please drop you baked goods off at the Food Booth Saturday morning, or contact one of the Yellow Thunder Board of Directors to make alternative arrangements. The booth gets very busy, and we need help from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., so if you can help, please contact Clare Stronach at 592-5321. The Food Booth will begin in the morning at 6:30 a.m. sharp with setup activities. Yellow Thunder provides juice, coffee or water and breakfast baked goods to the exhibitors at the Art Fair, so we need to get going early! The Art Fair runs until about 4:00 p.m., and Yellow Thunder will be serving food all day. Our menu will include Bar-B-Ques, hot dogs, cold sandwiches, brats, desserts, soda, lemonade, ice cream, and root beer floats.

Lodi Agricultural Fair Activities - The annual Lodi Agricultural Fair will be held July 8-11, and Yellow Thunder will again be hosting the Saturday evening chicken dinner on July 10. Chicken dinners will be served from about 3:30 p.m. until the chicken is gone. Last year, we cooked and served over 1,100 pounds of chicken. The committee chairpersons for this event are Ann Dohm (592-5119) and Kris Krause (592-3395). Please contact Kris if you have the time to volunteer working at this event. Beer Tent – Yellow Thunder will also be assisting in selling refreshments in the beer tent on Friday, July 9. Volunteers are needed for early and late shifts. Please contact Roger Wipperfurth (850-3661) if you can help out or simply show up for work Friday night.

July Meeting and August Meeting and Cookout - The July meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Sunset Harbor. Dennis Davis (“Turkey”) has again offered to host our August meeting-and-cookout in his spacious shed on Tuesday, August 10. The grills will be ready to cook at 6:00 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please bring your choice of meat to grill, a dish to pass, your beverage of choice, your own table service, and a lawn chair to sit on during the meeting. To get to Turkey’s, drive into Harmony Grove on County Hwy V, turn right onto River Road just past the 2nd 35 mph sign, turn left on Tonja, then right onto Airport Dr. The address is W10585 Airport Drive, which is on the right about a half block from Tonja; green house with a green shed.

Membership News - All memberships expire August 31, and that means the 2010-2011 membership drive is now under way. A mini-application blank is included on the back of your newsletter, and full-page application blanks will be sent out with the next newsletter, or you can download and print one from our web site if you choose.

Good Samaritan Birthday Party - Yellow Thunder will again be sponsoring the monthly Good Samaritan Birthday Party on the afternoon of August 2 at 2:00 p.m. Donna Benson is chairing this excellent community service function that many of the Good Samaritan residents look forward to each year. Donna is looking for volunteers to assist the day of the event. If you can spare some time, please contact Donna at 849-4934. This will be the last year that Donna will be coordinating this event so we are looking for someone to step forward and chair this event going forward.

Miscellaneous - Attendance fund winner for the June meeting was Dean & Lucy Clemens. Since they were present at the meeting, they went home with a little extra spending money in their pocket(s). Congratulations to Ben and Amanda Krejchik (and grandma and grandpa Dean and Lucy Clemens) on the birth of their son on June 25! Suzy the Duck days is August 14 and we will again have a float in the parade. If you can help out please contact Chad Wipperfurth at 592-2134.
