Come Ride with us!

FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

For the third year in a row, we are having a wonderful snow season in southern Wisconsin. Our trails were open for approximately 6 weeks in a row until the rain came, but we had a great base and with the recent snow we have been able to open the trails again. At this time the trails are only going to be in fair shape due to minimal snow in spots, but with just a little more snow we should be in great shape

Winter Party and Fundraiser - The Yellow Thunder Winter Grooming/Trail Maintenance Raffle and Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at The Dorf Haus in Roxbury, beginning at 6:30 p.m. As in previous years, the top prize is $3,000, with a total of $6,000 in total cash prizes given away to 27 lucky winners. Each $50 raffle ticket holder can also purchase one additional meal ticket for a spouse or guest for $10 the night of the event, which also includes free beer and soda, and music by Juke Box Bandstand. There will also be pull tabs, the penny raffle, a split-the-pot raffle, and the infamous Polar Roller raffle. The proceeds from the raffle will be used to pay for grooming and trail maintenance, which is much needed with the excellent snow we have had this season.

Soup on the Trails - Just a reminder that free soup is available during the week, for snowmobilers, when the trails are open. On Tuesdays you can enjoy soup at KD’s Bar & Grill; Wednesdays you can enjoy a soup buffet with a variety of soups at the Northern Edge; and Thursdays you can stop at Schoepp’s Resort. Stop in for hot soup when you are on the trails.

Easter Seals Event - The Easter Seals Society of Wisconsin and the Dane County Council of Snowmobile Clubs Blizzard Blast event will be held February 6, 2010, at Doubleday’s in Cottage Grove. Tickets are $20, which places your name in the raffle for $1,000 (top prize) and other games and prizes at the event. Events begin at 4 pm and door prizes will be awarded throughout the night. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 1-608-277-8288 ext. 109.

Souparee - The Yellow Thunder Souparee was held in conjunction with our monthly meeting on January 10, at Peg & Doc’s in Dane. Quite a few members were able to ride their snowmobiles to the meeting, and they were treated to excellent trails. At the meeting we collected canned goods for the local food pantry, and enjoyed a potluck lunch along with hot soup. There was a good turnout for the event and everyone enjoyed good food and good company. Thanks to Peg & Doc’s for hosting the event and providing the soup.

Membership News/Board of Directors - As of February 3, our membership stands at 164 with 7 commercial sponsors. Thank you to all for your membership in Yellow Thunder, and to those that have recruited new members. Our Annual Meeting will be March 9, at Northern Edge, and we will be electing three members to the Yellow Thunder Board of Directors. If you are interested in becoming a Board member, please contact any current Board member, or a nominating committee member which would be any of our three outgoing Board members, Kris Krause, Derald Stronach, and Kim Glaser. Thanks to our outgoing Board members for their years of service to Yellow Thunder.

AWSC Convention - The AWSC convention will be held on March 12 - 14 at the Radisson in Wisconsin Rapids. This annual event is always a good time. At our February meeting we will be electing delegates to attend this event on behalf of Yellow Thunder. If you are interested in attending the event, please plan on coming to the February meeting to learn more and potentially be a delegate. Registration forms can be found at www.awsc.org.

Miscellaneous - The names of Roger and Rosemary Lee were drawn for the attendance fund during the January meeting, and since they were not present, the fund will carry over to the next meeting. Deadline for Yellow Thunder's two $250.00 scholarships is February 15. Contact Jenny Rake (592-5944) for more information. Thanks to all of the groomer operators and mechanics that have kept our groomers running and providing us with smooth trails!
