Yellow Thunder Snowmobile Club

Come Ride with us!

DECEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER

Last year at this time we were bracing for colder temperatures and snow. We have had a couple of teaser snowfalls, which hopefully is an indication of things to come. Once again the Upper Peninsula has been getting some early lake effect snow, which could mean that riding may less than a week away in some areas. Bring it on!

Club Fall Raffle - The Yellow Thunder Fall raffle was held on November 11 at Beck’s on the Water. This year’s grand prize winner of $1,000 was Chris Kelley. Congratulations to Chris! Thank you to everyone that helped to sell raffle tickets, and to all who purchased tickets this year in support of Yellow Thunder Snowmobile Club. Also, thanks to Chad Wipperfurth for coordinating ticket sales for this fundraiser.

Membership News - Membership currently stands at 102 active members. Memberships expired at the end of August, and almost 80 members have yet to renew their membership.. In order to continue AWSC membership, as well as continue receiving the Wisconsin Snowmobile News magazine and the ever-popular Yellow Thunder newsletter, please complete the enclosed application form, and mail it to Yellow Thunder along with your membership fee.

Final Trail Marking Day - The final day of trail marking will be this Saturday, December 6. Anyone interested in helping should contact Harry Benson (592-5127) or one of the other trail bosses (Ben Larrabee 225-1196, Mark Zeman 592-5716, Mike Attoe 592-4937, Derald Stronach 592-5321, Ron Schoepp 592-5585, Dennis Davis 592-5105, Dean Clemens 592-4138), or plan to assist the same as last year, as we complete this annual task. At noon, most helpers will be stopping at Fitty’s, where hot soup, cheese, and crackers will be provided for all of the hard-working trail marking volunteers. At the end of the day, join the annual tradition to adjourn back to Fitty’s to plan this year’s rides.

Holiday Party - The Yellow Thunder Holiday Party will be held on Sunday, December 7, at the Best Western facility, I-90 & Hwy. 60. The party will begin at Noon and we will eat at about 12:30 pm. Santa will be arriving around 2:00 pm. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. The Best Western has a swimming pool (no cost) for Yellow Thunder guests (adults must supervise their children and you should bring your own towels).

Workshop Report - Yellow Thunder once again had two delegates at the AWSC Workshop that was held in October. The AWSC Workshop was well attended this year, although everyone registered at the last minute that gave the organizers a bit of a scare. Next year they promised that the Snow Show will be back with the Workshop. Congratulations to Malorie Storie, Yellow Thunder’s entry for Miss Snowflake! Malorie reported that it was a great experience.

Winter Fundraiser - Mark your calendars for February 7, 2008, when Yellow Thunder will be holding their winter fundraiser at the Northern Edge/Downtown Cafe (formerly City Limits). This event is Yellow Thunder’s biggest fundraiser, and will include a $50 raffle ticket that will include dinner at the Northern Edge, and a chance to win the $3,000 top prize. There will be many additional cash prizes, door prizes, pull tabs, and surprises. Tickets are now available and those individuals who sold tickets last year have them once again. Contact Kris or Gail Krause (592-3395) to purchase, sell, or inquire if you need more information.

Dane Trails - You will note this year that the trails around Dane have significantly changed and the Dane Loop is no longer part of our trail system. This is largely due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail (cutting corners). Remember that nearly all of our trails are on private land and we must respect the privilege of using our trail system by staying on the marked trail.

Miscellaneous - The name of Yngsdal Trust was drawn for the attendance fund at the November meeting. Since they were not present, the fund will carry over to the next meeting. December Meeting Location Change – Note that the December meeting will be held at Pizza Pit and not Coffee Grounds as previously listed on the calendar of events. Due to the extended gun deer season, snowmobile trails in Columbia County will not open until at least December 15. The CCASC Christmas party on December 18th at Dorothy's Rainbow Inn in Otsego, we are collecting food pantry donations. If anyone wants to bring donations to our Christmas party or meeting next week, we can deliver them.
